Write in a weekend… without leaving your home!

Housebound for any reason? Maybe you’ve been ill, are recovering from an illness, have a problem with constant fatigue, or are at home with demanding small children? Diana Cambridge’s writing books could have been tailor made for you…

If you are disabled or house bound for any reason – then Diana Cambridge’s books How to write for magazines…in one weekend and How to write travel articles…in one weekend (both from Canal Street Publishing Ltd at £9.99 each) are for you! You may have a mild or major disability that stops you from going out – or you may be pretty much housebound because you have a baby or small children.

Then your only free time will be those precious few hours when they’re in bed – and that could be the time for an inspirational hobby like writing. Because it’s a wonderful therapy too, writing each evening will energise you and help power you through the next day. It will give you confidence and ease you out of a mild depression – every study shows that regularly writing a diary, for example, will lift your spirits.

Both books give you an inspiring, relaxing, simple step by step course which do not entail you leaving your desk or your sofa. You could be sitting in the garden or in your own living room, happily working your way through her books and moving yourself to publication. There’s no need to go anywhere! And for travel articles, you could even write an inspiring travel piece from a trip round your own town in a wheelchair.

Diana believes there are no limits when you use your imagination linked to your writing skills – and she can guarantee that editors will snap up the off-beat and unconventional piece. Your view as a disabled or homebound person will be as fascinating to the reader – if not more so – than that from a conventional writer.

Diana includes masses of useful tips on foods, drinks, relaxation exercises, even music to play and other books and magazines that might be helpful – you can look on her books as friends to encourage you through the weekend.

What’s so good about her writing books is that they could have been designed for a housebound writing beginner or addict. You do them at your own pace and you’ll definitely see results!

Already Diana has had a huge postbag from happy readers who have found her books did exactly what they promised. Many readers are already seeing their work in print. Here are just a few examples of what they say:

Hi Diana,

I thought I would send you a quick e-mail to say thank you for your fabulous How to Write for Magazines book. I have got endless 'How To' titles on my shelves, but yours is definitely the best.

I don't know why, but something just clicked when I read it and I (finally) appear to be doing something right. I have just completed my first commission for The Guardian. A 1400 word feature in the Wellbeing section of G2, which I hope will be published in the next few weeks.

The piece is called From Sofa to 5km and charts my training to run the Race for Life. I attach a copy for your information only. Any advice on how to re-jig it and sell it somewhere else would be most welcome!

Anyway, thank you very much once again - you have helped make me very happy.

Best wishes,

Katherine Locke

Hi Diana

I felt I had to say thank you.

Does what it says on the tin

Please excuse the cliche above but it fits so well as to how I now feel after reading your book.

For the past four months I've read books, prepared the office, read some more, stared at the blank pages, made lists of ideas, but never seemed to have enough courage to put pen to paper.  That is until I decided to try once more, and I purchased your book. "How to write for magazines… in one weekend" and EUREKA!

I've written a letter, an opinion piece and a short story.

It was exactly as you said, I was lacking in confidence – but not any more- your book did the trick.

I feel I'm buzzing with ideas and enthusiasm. I don't know if any of the letters etc will be published, but just to be able to say I've written them and even more importantly, actually sent them off… is a wonderful feeling.

I have enjoyed the whole experience and it's my intention to have another batch ready for next week. I'm setting a goal for three letters a week or one letter and one short story, and who knows?

I just had to say a big thank you. The book is down to earth with such practical tips and advice that my confidence has been given such a boost, I feel I must continue.

I hope to tell you of my success soon.

Thank you so much.

Bonnie Tait.

Dear Diana

I have received my copy of your How to write for magazines book this morning – thank you for your prompt response.

The weekend course is really exciting! This is the first “how to” on writing that has captured my imagination so much. At present I am nursing my husband through an illness (and I have MS but that’s by the way) so I’ll choose a sensible weekend and make my plans before settling down to work through the course.

Dear Diana

I just want to say a big thank you – your book is brilliant! Things just bubbled up as I read. I’ve had a few short stories published and a couple of articles in The Lady over the past couple of years and now my youngest child is older I am wanting to push ahead with my writing. It is a confidence thing. I could have done it before but kept talking myself out of it.

I’m ready to attack now – thanks to you and your book! What great advice you give – and so generous. I always read your pages in Writers News and Writing magazine and now I’m looking forward to putting your advice in practice – I’ll let you know how I get on.

A million thanks.

Dear Diana

Your book is wonderful and so inspiring. After letting my subscription to Writing magazine lapse for a year I recently renewed my membership and am so glad I did, I would not have known about your book otherwise.

Not only have I found the articles informative but they have given me the incentive to add to the letters and articles I had had published in the past. You have definitely re-enthused me and I am now raring to go (after the ironing and prep for dinner!).

Thank you again

Marianne Piesley.

Dear Diana

I very much enjoyed your How to write for magazines…in one weekend.

Although I’m an oldie, writing for nearly 40 years now, I found much there to inspire me and help me as I plod ever onwards. And yours is the first article I turn to in Writing magazine. Thanks for all your expertise and understanding.
